Stonehedge Elementary School Will be Even COOLER Soon

When parents and visitors come to our school they likely notice construction trailers, trucks, lifts, and notices posted on our doors. Most families probably already know that Stonehedge Elementary School will have air conditioning installed as part of our capital project. Our contractors have been working early mornings and evenings after students have left to get as much pre-construction work as possible done. When our students and teachers leave for summer vacation, the construction will really heat-up as ceilings come down to install air conditioning ducts and then everything is put back in place so that our summer cleaning crews can make every room look shiny and new. When the children return in September, our classrooms will be clean, temperature controlled, and, as always, a great learning environment. Some of the old building materials that will be removed contain asbestos. This material will not be disturbed until after students and faculty are out of the building for the summer. The permit begin date of June 15th is to allow the workers to begin sealing off  the work areas in preparation for removal. This work will happen in our basement and not during school hours. Although the construction will create some inconveniences for our faculty, the long term benefits for our students are sure to be well worth the trouble.

The Duck Race to End Racism

Third grade students and teachers took part in The Duck Race to End Racism this past Saturday. This annual event brings together all parts of the community for an afternoon of fun for everyone. Thousands of floating rubber ducks raced down a portion of Onondaga Creek near the Syracuse Inner Harbor.  In addition to the main attraction of the race, the day included entertainment and activities for children and families. Congratulations go out to Mrs. LoBello’s class who placed 2nd in the Third Grade heat.

Chase Corporate Challenge Run/Walk

Stonehedge Elementary School’s third grade teaching team joined other West Genesee School District staff members gathered at Onondaga Lake Park to take part in the Chase Corporate Challenge Run/Walk. This was the tenth year that West Genesee has been involved in this great event. We are proud of the strides our faculty takes to build a strong community inside and outside of our school.
