February Update

We were very glad that the cold did not force us to close today. Classes were able to tie-up mid-year units and students were able to exchange cards and well-wishes with their friends. During this wintery month, a big “Thank You” goes to our Physical Education teachers for braving the cold and getting our children outside for fresh air and exercise. Unfortunately, today it was too cold to hold winter carnival activities. Still, Stonehedge students had a lot of fun celebrating with their classmates today.

Once again we want to thank our PTA for making good things happen for our students! A sound system purchased by our PTA has allowed us to transform our gold cafeteria into a large group instruction room that can accommodate up to seven classes at one time. The third, fourth and fifth grades have all had successful lessons in the cafeteria. This would not have been possible without the help and support that we receive from the district technology department and our PTA.

The entire third grade class came together in our Large Group Instruction (LGI) room for two whole-class lessons. They began by reading about acceptance and friendship, then took time to introduce themselves to students from other homerooms. Each child gave and received a friendship bracelet to serve as a reminder of how important our friends are to us.

The second lesson was a math review of finding the area of regular and irregular polygons.  The students solved complex problems in teams of eight and reported their solutions to each other.

We are very proud of our students for the kindness and respect that they showed one and other and of the fine math work that they completed.

Congratulations to our PTA Founders' Day Award Recipients

Last night at our PTA meeting, four amazing volunteers were recognized for their tireless dedication to our students. Congratulations to Deb Abbott, Mickey Lannon, Debbie Quick, and Patty Searle. Thank you for everything you do for the Stonehedge community.

The PTA Spring Spirit Wear sale will run February 26 through March 11 with delivery by the end of March. New items will include baseball caps, tie dyed t-shirts, soccer socks, and girl's headbands.

February break reminds us that spring is right around the corner and that we are more than halfway through our school year. This is a great time to give our children a little extra encouragement and praise for all of their diligent studies and hard work. While school is out of session, we hope that everyone has time for some much deserved fun and relaxation.
