May Update

Spring Concert: Here are some pictures from a spectacular performance by Band, Chorus and Orchestra at their Spring Concert. We are so proud of our students for all their hard work and dedication to putting on an amazing performance. Thank you to all the parents, families and friends who were able to join us for this evening of exciting entertainment.

Special Olympics: Several of our students participated in the Special Olympics at CNS last Thursday. Before they left Stonehedge, they receved a rousing send off and show of support from the students and staff in grades 3, 4, and 5. We are so proud of all our participants!

Our school budget vote is in the WGHS auditorium lobby today, May 21, from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Voters will be considering our spending plan for the next school year and will also be electing Board of Education members. Please remember to vote.

Bonjour!

On April 30, students in third grade enjoyed an instructional lesson in conversational French. Mrs. Wagner and students in her French class came from WGHS to lead instruction that covered French greetings, names, numbers, colors, animals, and many common French terms. The third graders played Simon Says and Bingo and did various other activities to “practice” their newly-learned French words. Our students came away with a new appreciation for how much fun learning a foreign language can be. If you see a third grade Stonehedge student don't forget to say, "Bonjour!"

Yes We CAN!

Our collections for St. Lucy's Food Pantry are coming along. Our We CAN Wednesday goal is 2013 items and to date we have collected 1,206. Our magic number to reach our goal is currently 807. Each week when the food is delivered, the folks at St. Lucy's are thrilled to receive it. Mrs. Connelly's class has been counting the items each week and loading them into the back of her van. On Sundays the food is delivered to the pantry. Items such as canned fruits and vegetables, pasta, peanut butter, tuna, cereal, toothpaste, shampoo, and baby food are always needed. We are hopeful to reach our goal by May 22, but we will continue on if necessary. Please feel free to send in an item any day of the week and have your child place it in the bin in the Blue or Gold office.

Students Leading Students

The Students Leading Students program for the 2012-2013 school year concluded last Thursday. We are very grateful to the 19 high school students who volunteered their time twice a week to work with children in grades 3-5 on homework, reading, or other academic interests. We had 56 elementary students take advantage of the program, which was a smashing success. We hope to run the program again during the 2013-2014 school year and serve even more students.

Practicing

Our fourth and fifth graders are getting ready for their upcoming concert on Tuesday, May 14, at 7:00 p.m. in the WGHS auditorium.
This concert will feature Orchestra, Band, and Chorus. Come join us and hear the results of the music students' hard work during the year!

Our School Budget Vote is in the WGHS Auditorium on Tuesday, May 21, from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Please make a note in your calendars. If you have not had a chance to attend one of Dr. Brown’s budget presentations, there will be another public School Budget Presentation on Tuesday, May 7, at 7:00 p.m. in the WGHS LGI room.
